Afro and coily hair is its own craft. Different growth pattern, different shape-up logic, different shrinkage to plan around, different product behavior under the clippers. A barber who cuts straight hair fluently can still be the wrong call for a 4A-to-4C texture — the line behind the ear sits differently, the fade reads differently against the hairline, the crown wants to be built up instead of laid down.
Most barbershops in the Twin Cities will quietly hand a Black client to whoever is open. We don’t. The five barbers below are the ones who do this work every week, who own the right guards and the right comb attachments, and who can talk shop about a sponge twist as easily as a skin fade.
