FAQ

Twenty-three questions we get every week. The honest ones. The annoying ones. The “is the parking really that bad” ones.
How much does a haircut cost at Studio AZ?
From $35 to $80 depending on which barber you book. Every barber sets their own rate based on experience and demand. The price you see on each barber's page is the price of the cut itself — no service upsells, no add-ons at checkout. Some barbers pass a card processing fee, so cash or Venmo can be worth asking about.
How much does a fade cost in Minneapolis?
At Studio AZ, a fade is the same price as any other cut — that depends on which barber you book ($35 to $80). We don't charge extra for a fade versus a standard cut. A fade just takes longer and requires more skill; we expect that of every barber here.
Do I need an appointment, or do you take walk-ins?
We run on appointments. Use the Soonest Available checker on the homepage to see if there's a chair free today — same-day demand becomes a booked appointment, not a walk-in.
Where is Studio AZ located?
333 Washington Avenue North, Suite 100, Minneapolis MN 55401. Inside the Union Plaza building in the North Loop, between Deja Vu and Dario. Two minutes from Target Field, three blocks from the Blue Line.
Is the parking really that bad?
It's manageable. We don't have a dedicated lot. Street meters on Washington Ave N and 3rd St N take cards. Most people park within a block. If you're taking transit, the Blue Line and Green Line both terminate at Target Field Station — three blocks away.
Do your barbers speak Spanish?
Three of them: Lionel (founder), Gilberto, and Joshua. Filter the barber roster by language on the Barbers page.
What's the difference between a fade and a taper?
Same idea — length transitioning from short to long — different execution. A fade gets cut down to skin (skin fade) or near-skin at the shortest point. A taper stays at scissor or guard length all the way down. A taper is more subtle and grows out more gracefully; a fade is sharper and reads more deliberate.
Do you specialize in men's long hair?
Yes. Several of our barbers and stylists specifically do long hair on men — layered scissor work, modern shapes, cuts that grow out gracefully. See the Men's Long Hair page for the full roster.
What's a hot towel shave?
A full clean shave: hot towel softens the beard, lather is applied, and a straight razor passes across the whole face. Available with Drew ($50) and Liam ($45).
Do you charge extra for thick or long hair?
No. The price is the price. Our barbers price for their skill, not for your hair density.
Do you have package deals for haircut + beard?
Yes. Several barbers offer a haircut + beard combo at a discount versus booking them separately. See each barber's page for the combo rate.
Can I get my barber to use specific products?
Bring your own if you have a favorite — your barber will use it. Otherwise we'll match a finish product to your hair and the cut.
Can I decline the shampoo or styling?
Yes. The full service includes wash and style at no extra cost, but if you'd rather skip either, just tell your barber. You'll still leave fresh.
How long does a haircut take?
Most cuts take 45 to 60 minutes including consultation, cut, wash, and style. Beard add-ons add 15 to 30 minutes.
Do you cut kids' hair?
Yes, depending on the barber and the kid. Bring patience and the right reference photos.
Do you sell hair products in the shop?
A small curated selection — only what our barbers actually use and recommend. Nothing pushed at checkout.
Are you affiliated with Studio AZ Tattoo?
Yes. Studio AZ Tattoo is in the same building (basement floor). Same founder, same brand. Different aesthetics and different bookings — find them at tattooshopminneapolis.com.
What's your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours' notice if possible. Late cancellations and no-shows hurt the barber and the chair after you. We'll be reasonable for real emergencies.
Do you take walk-ins for line-ups or quick beard trims?
Best path is the Soonest Available checker — book the next free 15-minute slot. If you walk in cold, we'll fit you in if a barber is genuinely free, but we can't guarantee it.
Is the shop wheelchair accessible?
Yes. The Union Plaza building has accessible entrances and the shop is on the ground floor (Suite 100).
Can I bring a coffee or a drink in?
Yes. We have a coffee shop two doors down if you want to grab one before your appointment.
Do you do private events or corporate bookings?
Occasionally. Reach out via the contact page and we'll talk.
Do you accept tips?
Yes. Cash or card. Add it at checkout. Our barbers appreciate it but won't expect it.
